US Northern Command

  • Headquarters: Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs, CO
  • Mission: USNORTHCOM conducts homeland defense, civil support and security cooperation to defend and secure the United States and its interests.
  • Fun Fact: The commander of USNORTHCOM also commands the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), a bi-national command responsible for aerospace warning, aerospace control,
    and maritime warning for Canada, Alaska and the continental United States.

US Southern Command

  • Mission: USSOUTHCOM is ready to conduct joint and combined full-spectrum military
  • Fun Fact: U.S. Southern Command’s history as a unified military headquarters began during World War II when U.S. planners established the U.S. Caribbean Defense Command.

US European Command

  • Headquarters: Stuttgart, Germany
  • Mission: The mission of the U.S. European Command is to conduct military operations, international military engagement, and interagency collaborating to enhance transatlantic security and defend the
    United States forward. We do this by establishing an agile military organization with a "whole of government"
    approach seeking to support enduring stability and peace in Europe and Eurasia.
  • Fun Fact: The command is responsible for U.S. military relations with NATO and 51 countries on two continents with a total population of close to a billion people

US Africa Command

  • Headquarters: Stuttgart, Germany
  • Mission: U.S. AFRICOM, in concert with other U.S. government agencies and international partners, conducts sustained security engagement through military-to-military programs, military-sponsored activities, and other military operations as directed to promote a stable and secure African environment in support of U.S. foreign policy.
  • Fun Fact: The newest command, USAFRICOM was created by presidential order in 2007 and became fully operational October 1, 2008.

US Central Command

  • Headquarters: MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL
  • Mission: With national and international partners, U.S. Central Command promotes cooperation among nations, responds to crises, and deters or defeats state and nonstate aggression, and supports development and, when
    necessary, reconstruction in order to establish the conditions for regional security, stability, and prosperity.
  • Fun Fact: The command also provides disaster relief throughout its region, its most recent significant relief operations in response to the October 2005 earthquake in Pakistan and the large-scale evacuation of American citizens
    from Lebanon in 2006.

US Pacific Command

  • Headquarters: Honolulu, HI
  • Mission: U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM), together with other U.S. Government agencies, protects and defends the United States, its territories, Allies, and interests; alongside Allies and partners, promotes regional security and deters
    aggression; and, if deterrence fails, is prepared to respond to the full spectrum of military contingencies to restore
    Asia-Pacific stability and security.
  • Fun Fact: PACOM, established as a unified command on January 1, 1947, is the oldest and largest of the United States’ unified commands.

US Strategic Command

  • Headquarters: Offutt AFB, near Omaha, NE
  • Mission: U.S. Strategic Command promotes global security for America by: Deterring attacks on US vital interests, and defending the nation should deterrence fail; Leading, planning, & executing strategic deterrence operations; Ensuring US freedom of action in space and cyberspace; Delivering integrated kinetic and non-kinetic effects in support of US Joint Force Commanders; Synchronizing global missile defense plans and operations; Synchronizing regional combating of weapons of mass destruction plans; Planning, integrating, & coordinating ISR in support of strategic and global operations, as directed; Advocating for capabilities as assigned

US Transportation Command

  • Headquarters: Scott AFB, Illinois
  • Mission: Develop and direct the Joint Deployment and Distribution Enterprise to globally project strategic national security capabilities; accurately sense the operating environment; provide end-to-end distribution process visibility; and responsive support of joint, U.S. government and Secretary of Defense-approved multinational and non-governmental logistical requirements.
  • Fun Fact: USTRANSCOM is composed of three component commands: the Army’s Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, the Navy’s Military Sealift Command, and the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command.
