Now is a chance to have your photograph selected for inclusion in the Department of Defense and the Department of State’s collaborative photography project SERVING ABROAD… THROUGH THEIR EYES. If you are an active or former member of the U.S. military, Foreign Service or Civil Service, you may submit up to ten of your best images taken abroad since 2000 for consideration. Submissions must be received by February 20, 2012.

Upload Instructions: Note: You may upload up to five (5) images at a time, for a maximum of ten (10) images total. If you are uploading multiple images, please number the caption to match the image or advanced users may include the caption information in the file info field using photoshop.

The Best in Show honorees will be recognized in Washington D.C. this Fall with images crafted into video artwork by renowned artist Lincoln Schatz that will be displayed November 30 at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The exhibit will then travel to the Pentagon, the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, and other prominent national and international locations.

“It is simply phenomenal, and absolutely fitting that photos by America’s bravest during tough duty abroad get this sort of national recognition. I can’t wait to see them and take part in the new conversations and relationships this is sure to inspire,” said Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta.

New York Times photographer Joao Silva will convene a distinguished photo jury and announce the selections on Armed Forces Day 2012. The ten Best in Show photographers will be invited to Washington to be honored in the exhibition’s November 2012 opening celebration.

This unique DoD and DoS collaboration is in conjunction with the office of ART in Embassies, which is celebrating 50 years of international cultural exchange.
